Order of Battle: World War II, Boot Camp (tutorial), Mission 2: Island Hopping, Part 5

Turns 20-32

Figure 1 - Second OPFOR DD

The second RT DD appears during the AI's turn #19 and damages DesRon X DD 1. On turn #20 New Orleans engages the enemy at close to maximum range while the GT's DDs manoeuvre to shield her from torpedo fire. By the end of turn #21 the RT's DD is an almost toothless wreck and is finally sunk by CA 32 on turn #22.

Figure 2 - More Paratroopers

The background image depicts the situation at the start of turn #22 with the 2nd RT's Paras in their landing zone. Their approach during turns #20 and #21 is tracked with the C47 Skytrain inserts, as is the 3rd RT's Paras in turn #23. The strip along the bottom of the image illustrates the attacks of 1/A, 1/B and Eng/A Coys during turn #22 crippling the enemy paratroopers while the two inserts on the top right corner document their final moments. Of importance in this engagement is the paratroopers' diminished efficiency right after landing.

Figure 3 - Paratroopers again

Forward to turn #25. The 3rd RT Para had landed North of the river and tried to force a crossing at the bridge guarded by Eng/A Coy. After the obligatory shore bombardment (blue border insert) they are forced to retreat by 1/B Coy. The black border insert shows their initial position on the bridge.

Figure 4 - Across the river

Turn #26 and the US Recruits defending the village North of the bridge are eliminated. They had been the target of potshots by the Navy in previous turns and were down to 10 HP. The blue insert illustrates their strength, efficiency and entrenchment before this turn's shore bombardment. Moving clockwise the prognostics are for Eng/A, X/Cav/A and 1/B Coy's attacks.

Figure 5 - Expanding the bridgehead

Turn #27 the Navy shifts its sights to the US Infantry defending the inland village. Three turns of shore bombardment reduces their strength by 4 HP and their efficiency by 60/100. One push by Eng/A Coy with flanking support by Cav/A Coy and they retreat. Note once more the efficiency loss caused by the retreat.

Figure 6 - Advancing North on the West coast

I need to think harder when preparing these images. On the left side the blue border insert depicts the US Recruits in the town with the port on the West coast at the start of the Navy's shelling in turn #31. You'll then have to look all the way to the right side insert for Eng/A Coys attack on turn #32. Of particular note is the Engineer's attack value of 15. Finally you'll have to look to the center-left for 1/B Coy's attack. Note their attack value of 13, 12 plus Sergeant McNeil's bonus. Sorry for the extra eye movement.
