The previous post ended with a mortar attack by 1/D Coy. The following turn sees Eng/B Coy attacking the surviving Engineer garrison of the central Depot and forcing them to retreat. 1/D Coy then takes the opportunity to destroy them and push through into the river. It is not the most advantageous position to take but as can be seen the OPFOR's M3 Stuart is almost destroyed and the AT Gun defending the Port town is also heavily damaged. They have been under naval gunfire and aerial strafing and bombing for quite a few turns (Figure 1).

During turn 16 1/D Coy reached the other bank of the river and 1/C Coy started its crossing. The AT Gun took enough naval gunfire that on turn 17 1/C Coy was able to approach it moving along the river, destroy it in a swift charge and take its position revealing the Infantry defending the Port town itself. 1/D Coy can then take the Airfield and attack the Infantry after a naval barrage (Figure 2).

During turn 18 Eng/B Coy takes the time to deploy a pontoon bridge just because it can (my idea was to build it first and then cross the river but the OPFOR's Engineer retreat created an opportunity). 1/D Coy moves to a position where it can attack the town's garrison with flanking support after the customary naval supporting barrage. 1/C Coy completes the assault by pushing the OPFOR's Infantry out of the town and takes its place. This yields $20 (Figure 7 below, there are two or three other locations that also yield $20 when occupied). As the garrison is either destroyed or pushed away the auxiliaries start to cross the river and secure the far bank (Figure 3).

Figures 4 and 5 document the events of turn 19 where the Infantry is attacked again and a U.S. Recruits of the OPFOR's Reaction Force that tried to investigate is shown the error of its ways via naval shells and the men of 1/D and Eng/B Coys.

Figure 6 is a 3D image of the pontoon bridge, Figure 7 (mentioned above) illustrates the auxiliary M3 Stuart taking advantage of it and Figure 8 illustrates the auxiliary Heavy Infantry crossing the river via train and NOT taking the efficiency penalties from the swamp terrain.
