Turns 8-12, Assaulting the Red Lair
While the Marines were landing, the GT moved into position to attack the Red Base. 1/A Coy received veteran replacements ($11 for 4 hp), X/B Coy met the other units halfway and after a brief rest and resupply headed South to shadow Strawville.

Figure 1 - The Red Lair |
During turn #12 the Red Base garrison AT gun was attacked in quick succession by the US Marines, X/A Coy and 1/A Coy (main image). After staggering losses (12 hp) it retreated leaving the Red Base VP open to be occupied by 1/A Coy (insert). The Red Base garrison is thus left surrounded and out of supply.
The GT was awarded a hefty $100 and 1/A Coy earned an extra 157 XP.
Having the auxiliary units attack the AT gun made the capture of the VP much faster even if it meant feeding XP to non-core units. I've seen the RT swap the AT gun with one of the U.S. Recruits in previous plays of this mission and the Recruits are harder to dislodge even without being entrenched.
The M3 Stuart could have been used to provide flanking support but that means it will take damage in the inevitable counterattack by an AT Gun that had been attacked only by 1/A Coy.

The image above illustrates how bad an idea it is for a tank to attack an AT Gun directly or an unit with AT support.
